2006 Season - Pre Season Guide
Draft Day
This weekend saw the first week of pre-season games and as I type this we are exactly 3 weeks away from the biggest sporting event of the year. Forget the World Cup Final, the 2006 BUMS NFL Fantasy Draft will take place at BUMS HQ on Sunday evening September 3rd from approx 6pm. Cheryl will be doing food for all. Attached is the player price spreadsheet which also includes all the players 2005 scores & how much a Franchise player will cost you if he is cut by his current owner. Remember if you cut your franchise player you still have to pay him his signed salary for the rest of the season/two seasons. This year top scorers becoming available include QB Jake Plummer, running backs Jamal Lewis, Edgerrin James and Brian Westbrook and receivers Torry Holt, Randy Moss ad Terrell Owens as they have all ended their 2 year Franchise designation and become free agents. They are released onto the open market together with 20 rookies - see the rookie report attached.
Draft Order and Franchise Players
Ron will have the first pick in the draft and Daz will have the 99th and final choice. The full draft order, budgets available and franchise players are attached. Rookie George will have extra picks and the end of the 3rd & 5th rounds to compensate for having no Franchise players. As Aaron had to cut 1st year Franchise man Daunte Culpepper last October Aaron will also pick after George at the end of the 5th round. (He’s still paying Culpepper $3m a year so effectively has a $7m budget this season).
Trading DaysAs with previous years if you make a complete hash of your draft (or if one of your key picks gets injured) you will have two opportunities to put things right. Once Sky announce what double headers they’ll show I’ll finalise the dates so like last year we can have trading day in the late afternoon, immediately followed by Sunday NFL action. Trading Day 1 will be before either week 5 or 6 on Sunday Oct 8th or 15th and Trading Day 2 will be before week 10 or 11 on Sunday Nov 12th or 19th.
Season Kick-Off Game
Our first game to watch this season has the defending Superbowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers hosting Miami Dolphins. We expect Sky will show the game live in the early hours of Friday September 8th and we’ll get together later that evening to watch it off tape. Venue to be confirmed. See you on September 3rd.
